Jeff 'Omar' Hallett

Ever since Jeff was a boy of nine he had a
love for drum rhythms. Thanks to his patient
and loving parents he was given drum
lessons. During Jeff’s high school years,
in the 60's, he played in the marching
band, the Concert orchestra, and in
a jazz and surfer band as well.

In 1990, when his wife took up belly
dancing, he developed an interest in
Middle Eastern drumming and world
percussion in general. Jeff has done
extensive studying in world percussion
especially in the Middle Eastern style. He
was influenced by several, seasoned Middle
Eastern percussionists and developed a true love for the rhythms.

Jeff has performed at a multitude of festivals, private parties, weddings, and such venues as Renaissance Faires, Rakkasah and desert Dance festivals. His love of music and interest in instruments has led him to, not only purchase, but create numerous percussion instruments in his workshop.

Since 1990, he has been a member of and lead percussionist for dance troupes such as The Double Crown Dancers, Mary Donnelly's World Dance Company, Mirage, and Saja. Jeff is currently and pleasantly a member of Troupe Salamat. He also gives group or private Middle Eastern drum lessons; as he enjoys sharing his love of these rhythms and the structure of this music.
